To know Christ is to know suffering.

Righteous Music...

My wife has become addicted to YouTube since getting broadband at home, as has discovered Mika, whose sound is apparently somewhat similar to that of Queen. She has even infected my daughters blog with the sounds of Mika, such is the delusion of this woman I married... so now, to set things straight, this is what Queen sounds like and this is what real music sounds like. Beware of modern imitators and return to the only true rock...

Baaaaaaaa, I'm a sheep.

(Just because everyone else is doing it, Dione, Vania, blah, blah, blah)

I need me some of those...

“Though she was a tiger lady, our hero didn’t have to fire a shot to floor her. After one look at his Mr. Leggs slacks, she was ready to have him walk all over her. That noble styling sure soothes the savage heart! If you’d like your own doll-to-doll carpeting, hunt up a pair of these he-man Mr. Leggs slacks.”

Visual Statistics

This new series looks at contemporary American culture through the austere lens of statistics. Each image portrays a specific quantity of something: fifteen million sheets of office paper (five minutes of paper use); 106,000 aluminum cans (thirty seconds of can consumption) and so on. My hope is that images representing these quantities might have a different effect than the raw numbers alone, such as we find daily in articles and books. Statistics can feel abstract and anesthetizing, making it difficult to connect with and make meaning of 3.6 million SUV sales in one year, for example, or 2.3 million Americans in prison, or 426,000 cell phones retired every day. This project visually examines these vast and bizarre measures of our society, in large intricately detailed prints assembled from thousands of smaller photographs.

More.

ani ma'amin

I believe in the sun even when it isn’t shining.
I believe in love even when I am alone.
I believe in God even when He is silent.

(Graffiti found in 1945 on the wall of a basement in Koln, Germany, where a Jewish believer is thought to have been hiding from the Gestapo.)

From the book God On Mute.
